Star Wars: Battlefront 2

It’s already out there that SW:B2 is going to feature a substantial single-player campaign, something the first game was sorely lacking. Level Up did flesh out the storyline a little more, though. Players will take on the role of Iden Versio, leader of Inferno Squad, an elite Empire squad. That’s right, you’re the bad guy. Well, girl, actually, since this is the first Star Wars game to feature a female as the main protagonist (instead of simply as a playable option.) But it isn’t that simple. Iden doesn’t see herself as a villain; this is the only life she’s ever known. Her own squadmate puts it thusly: “The Empire is peace, and justice, and order.” The whole story focuses on what happens to the Empire, specifically what happens to an Elite squad who just watched the Empire die? Not much new info was given about multiplayer, but then we already know about Darth Maul, so what else do we need? Battlefront 2 comes out November 27, 2017, with Beta access available for those who pre-order.

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges

You may have seen those AR helmets that you can slide your phone into by now. Well, Star Wars is taking that by storm. Lenovo and Lucasfilm created their own AR headset. It’s going to make holochess a reality. You can even host (toy) battles in your house- you could re-enact the Hoth scene in your living room if you wanted to.

There is also a light saber peripheral. Look for Star Wars: Jedi Challenges coming up. You can go to here for a teaser of a teaser, and to sign up for notifications if you want to. (For the record, I already did.)

Spider-Man

Marvel is definitely getting their share of the video game love, too. Announced at E3, the new Spider-Man game looks amazing. While there have been plenty of Spider-Man games already, the creators promise to make you care more about the guy inside the suit this time around. They’re giving you a slightly older, established Spider-Man in this game, so we avoid the dreaded origin segment. It’s going to combine Peter Parker’s private life with Spider-Man battling people like Kingpin and an all new villain, Mr. Negative, plus tons of others. It looks huge, and cinematic, and action-packed. It’s going to open up all sorts of gameplay options, including environmental options, webbing enemies to other enemies, all kinds of stuff. This looks like it will let you step into the Spider-Man role in a way that’s never been offered before. It’s only available for PS4, though, so make sure you’re ready when it comes out.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

So this one looks to step it up from the already impressive Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Since the villain is Kang the Conqueror this time around, and time travel is his thing, you will get different versions of the different characters. In other words, you don’t just get Spider-Man, you can get Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Gwen, and even the homemade suit from Spider-Man Homecoming! The depth of the roster looks promising.

Marvel Powers United VR

And Star Wars gave us our AR entry, so Marvel’s bringing the VR game to life. Oculus Rift + touch is going to power this new VR game which lets you step into the shoes of some of your favorite superheroes; so far we know that Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, and Captain Marvel are playable. They are using the VR experience to really immerse you. For instance, if you play as the Hulk, you will actually have that viewpoint of towering over your enemies. It’s going to feature wireless co-op, and looks pretty great. They promise to reveal another character at the San Diego ComiCon. It has a release scheduled for 2018.

Kingdom Hearts 3

So the Kingdom Hearts series has been around for quite a while now, and this new entry looks amazing. First off, the concept is pretty great. Characters from the Final Fantasy series cooperating with your favorite Disney characters looks like a lot of fun. More importantly, they have Toy Story! Now, the game play looks good, and of course, as a KH entry, it’s going to have a massive story. For the first time ever, it will also have a Toy story. That’s enough to get me interested! It’s slated to release in 2018.

What new game are you most excited to try?
